Lok Sabha passed the National Food Security Bill on 26th August, 2013. The Bill now needs to be passed by the Rajya Sabha along with the President’s assent to become a law. National Food Security Bill is an ambitious welfare programme for The UPA government spoken by Congress president Sonia Gandhi. The scheme is expected to cost the country Rs 1.25 lakh crore.
