SBI is a government owned bank and is one of the largest banking and financial services of India that has branches in India and abroad. The Head Office of SBI is in Mumbai, Maharashtra. To look after the day-to-day transactions and profit of the organization, it is important to appoint probationary officers. It is also the largest employer in the country and every year there are thousands of vacancies in the field of the PO or clerks. This year through SBI PO exam 2014, they have announced the recruitment of 1837 probationary officers.

Role of Probationary Officer:

The probationary officer is the first step for an entry job in a bank for fresh graduates and those without any prior experience. Newly appointed PO has to report to their immediate senior officer who will closely monitor and evaluate his/her performances for a certain period of time. They have to take up assignments given by their managers. While on training, they will be deployed across various departments of the bank to get an overview of the day to day operations of the bank. In short, the PO has to take up any work that will be assigned to them during their probation time in order to understand the process effectively.

Career Path of Probationary Officer:

The Probationary Officers will undergo intensive training during the two years and will be on probation period. Towards the finishing of their probation period, they will be screening process. The services of those officers will be terminated who will be unable to meet the requirements of the process.

There are enormous growth opportunities in the bank, including that of postings abroad. The exceptionally brilliant and meritorious officers will accomplish the grade of Top Management in a very quick time.

Emoluments of PO:

The starting basic pay of a Probationary Officer is Rs. 16,900. Salary slab of 7-18700-700/2-20100-800/7-25700 is applicable for the Junior Management Grade Scale I. The officials are also entitled for Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, etc. as per the rules in force from time to time. The compensation, per annum in Mumbai is around Rs. 8,40,000. The break-up value of monthly emoluments is as under:

Cash Component Rs. 34,320/- 

Bank's contribution of Rs. 1,690 for Provident Fund. 

House Rent Allowance Rs. 29,500 

Newspapers, Conveyance, House & Furniture Maintenance, Entertainment Allowance etc. Rs. 4,130.

Importance of SBI Bank PO Exam:

The only means to become a Probationary Officer in SBI is to qualify the written test followed by Group Discussion and Personal Interview. The written test will comprise of 200 objective questions followed by Descriptive Test of 50 marks. The candidates will have to qualify in both the written test as well as GD and PI for the final selection in bank. SBI is going to conduct the PO exam on 15th June 2014.
